With the recent update the install location for Counter-Strike 1.6 moved to SteamApps/common/Half-Life . If you are experiencing crashes on startup after the update, and are running on Windows, it is possible that your install failed to convert to the new location, it may still be trying to run from the old folder. To fix this issue delete your Counter-Strike install and install it again, after making a copy of any custom configurations you may have made.
